Boat Bilge Pump Alarm
Bilge pump switches, bilge alarms and detectors, bilge counters. water that does not run off the side of the deck (from rough seas, rain, leaks etc...) collects in the bilge of your boat.. I installed a high water alarm on my boat since i did not have one. it's a pretty simple straightforward installation. it's required on boats 26' and over, my boat is 25' 5" so 7" short..
I’ve had a bilge pump alarm on my boat for the past 18 years. on our valiant 40, we have a small sump in the bilge that collects water first. in that sump is a small 500gph pump with a float switch. i wired the actual alarm to the auto-off-manual bilge switch near the nav station.. The ground for the alarm siren was chaffed and had bare wire showing and had to be repaired. high water alarm acts up occasionally on test but automatic and manual bilge functioned correctly in testing. don't think it will hold up for a long time but got my by for now until i get more expensive panels and high water alarm.. A traditional bilge configuration will involve at least one float switch, where additional ones are at offset elevations. additionally, there could be pump cycle counters, manual override switches, and a bilge high level alarm. the traditional setup also involves having both the pump, switch, and electrical cables located in the bilge sludge..
